Theme Checklist | 1.0.3 | 100 | 2 | 1197 |
| |||
The Theme Checklist plugin is an unofficial tool to help developers get their theme ready for the WordPress.org theme directory. Install the plugin, then navigate to Tools > Theme Checklist to start checking. We've compiled a some of the most common theme issues that we see in the theme review queue and put them on our site, Theme Checklist. This plugin simply loads in all the latest checks and gives you an easy interface to check off the issues as you check them in your own theme. Each issue has a detailed description with examples to help you avoid the them in your own theme. Checks are dynamically loaded from the Theme Checklist website to ensure you're always working with the latest version of the checks. If this fails, the plugin will fall back to the bundled checks in checks.json.

One-Click Child Theme | 1.6 | 92 | 68 | 296193 |
| |||
Adds a Theme option to any active theme allowing you to make a child theme. Please visit the plugin homepage. Useful for shared hosts, this allows you to easily create child themes from any theme just by clicking. Ever since WordPress 3.0, you shouldn’t directly modify CSS of any downloaded themes because if you update the theme, your changes will be destroyed. Instead, it is recommended that you create a child theme and edit the CSS there so that updates to the parent theme will be inherited instead of destroy your changes. The problem many run into is currently the only way to child theme something is edit files on the filesystem. This is non-intuitive for shared-hosting sites with one-click WordPress installs (it usually involves a “shell account” or learning how to use FTP). This attempts to get around that issue, by adding a button to the themes page to allow you to child theme the page. (It’s not really one-click, though.) Inspired by @janeforshort's and @designsimply's WordCamp SF 2011 talk on CSS theming as requested by @sfgirl for her blog.

Theme Downloader | 1.1.1 | 72 | 14 | 18908 |
| |||
A handy dandy plugin that tries to let you download any installed theme as a zip file. Most themes are licensed under the GPL, which makes it completely legal for you to do whatever you like with them, so long as you don't restrict what other people, in turn, can do with them. This is a type of copyleft license, and it means that you are free to redistribute any GPL-compliant themes any way you like! Unfortunately, it's often hard to actually do. While it's easy to upload a theme as a zip file, it's difficult to get the theme back afterwards! This plugin aims to make that a bit easier. If your server is capable of making Zip archives, and your user account has the edit_themes capability, then this plugin will let you download any of your themes -- including any modifications you've made to the code of it -- as a Zip file that you can then reinstall on any other WordPress site! Enjoy! 🙂 P.S. -- If the author of your theme didn't license it on a GPL-compliant license, make sure you're not breaking any licensing terms by what you do with the theme once you've downloaded it!

Reveal Template | 3.2 | 100 | 13 | 34977 |
| |||
Reveal the theme template file used to render the displayed page, via the admin bar, footer, widget, shortcode, and/or template tag. Designers and developers know that it can sometimes be confusing and frustrating to determine the exact template being utilized to render the currently displayed page in WordPress. Sometimes page or category specific templates exist, or a page/post has been set by the post author to use a particular template, or the current theme doesn't employ certain templates causing WordPress to fall back to others. This plugin relieves the aggravation by assisting designers and developers by displaying the template being used to render the currently displayed page in WordPress. This can be shown in one or more of the following methods: Site footer By default, the theme-relative path to the theme template file used to render the page is shown in the site's footer. The settings page for the plugin, at 'Design' -> 'Reveal Template', allows you to control and configure this particular method. Note: this only works if the theme follows the recommended practice of calling the wp_footer() template tag) at some point. Widget A widget named "Reveal Template" is made available which can be used to display the theme template file used to render the page in any widget location. Shortcode A shortcode called 'revealtemplate' is made available which can be used in post/page content to display the theme template file used to render the page. Currently it supports two possible attributes: 'admin' : Can either be 1 or 0 to indicate if the template name should be revealed to admins only. 1 means to admins only, 0 to all visitors. The default is 1. 'type' : The template path types. Must be one of 'absolute', 'filename', 'relative', or 'theme-relative'. Read the documentation for more information on what each of these mean. Examples: [revealtemplate type="absolute"], [revealtemplate type="filename" admin="0"] Template Tag A template tag is also provided which can be used to display the theme template file used to render the page. <?php c2c_reveal_template(); ?> By default, c2c_reveal_template() will echo the template name. To simply retrieve the template filename rather than displaying it: <?php $template = c2c_reveal_template( false ); ?> The template tag also takes a second argument which be can be one of the following: absolute, relative, theme-relative, filename. This determines the path style you'd like reported. If not specified, it uses the default defined in the plugin's settings page. Examples of path types: "absolute" : /usr/local/www/yoursite/wp-content/themes/yourtheme/single.php "relative" : wp-content/themes/yourtheme/single.php "theme-relative" : yourtheme/single.php "filename" : single.php This plugin is primarily intended to be activated on an as-needed basis. Theme Development Preview | 1.2 | 60 | 2 | 1149 |
| |||
Allows specific users to preview and configure a theme without affecting the current theme of the site. This plugin was developed to allow a client or collaborators to see a new theme (or themes) before it goes live. The plugin allows you to select a theme to preview and then select the users that will see that theme. Everyone else will see the normal theme selected for the site. The previewed theme can be configured, with that configuration stored separately from the normal theme so when the theme is previewed by another user it will use the saved configuration. Preview is available to several WP user roles, so Authors and Editors can also preview a theme as though it were a live site. The plugin requires the previewing user to be logged in. Configure a Theme Behind the Scenes This plugin differs from most “theme switcher” plugins or the Theme Customizer preview in that it allows the previewed theme to be fully configured before going live. The settings for the previewed theme are saved separately, so when the theme is switched over, all the settings are in place. Child Themes This plugin is compatible with the use of child themes. You can create several child themes and preview them as separate themes. Limitations This plugin does not currently play well with the Theme Customizer. In particular, it does not store the customizations for a theme that has been changed in the Customizer. You need to use the specific items in the “appearance” menu to configure the previewing theme. This plugin does not allow for different content for each theme, so you cannot preview content changes using this plugin. This includes page-specific layout settings and layouts generated by plugins such as Visual Composer. Previewing theme template files can be modified, however, and those changes won’t affect the public theme. Menu configuration: you can place existing menus into locations defined by the previewing theme and that will be remembered, but you cannot change the menu itself without affecting the normal site menus because they are the same content. If you need a different menu configuration for your previewing theme, create a new menu for that purpose. You will then be able to switch back and forth and the menu configuration will follow. The plugin does not allow for different plugin configurations, plugin activated/deactivated status, and settings. WordPress Plugin configurations are the same for the main and preview themes. If your new theme requires you to restructure the content or plugin configuration, it may be best to preview your new theme using a separate development site. Displays different themes based on the browser used. Helps you use a different theme depending on the browser your site is viewed on. This is great for things like having a dedicated theme for mobile devices, but also is a great way to cheat your way out of CSS hacks and browser specific annoyances ( IE anybody? ). Even though themes are usually designed to be cross browser and CSS fine tuning is part of it, sometimes you do not have the time to spend trying to figure out a way to make the pages behave across browsers. PLEASE vote and/or rate if it works for you or let me know if there's a fix needed at web[at]federicojacobi.com. Supported browsers for now: Internet Explorer, FireFox, Chrome, Opera, iPad/iPhone/iPod, Safari, Playstation 3, and BlackBerries. Protocol Relative Theme Assets | 1.0 | 80 | 2 | 980 |
| |||
Transforms enqueued CSS and JavaScript theme URLs to use protocol-relative paths. This plugin transforms any registered, enqueued CSS or JavaScript URLs into their "protocol-relative" equivalent. Consider the following examples: Protocol Relative CSS URL <link href="//example.com/wp-content/themes/twentytwelve/style.css" /> Protocol Relative Javascript URL <script src="//example.com/wp-includes/js/jquery/jquery.js"></script> More appropriately called a "network-path reference" or "scheme-relative path", a protocol-relative URL helps to avoid common scenarios such as: Broken SSL padlock icon in browser's address bar when showing mixed HTTP/HTTPS content Error message in Internet Explorer saying, "This Page Contains Both Secure and Non-Secure Items" Serving HTTP assets when viewing HTTPS pages The idea of using protocol-relative URLs was popularized by Paul Irish and has become common as sites switch between serving HTTP and HTTPS assets. This plugin will standardize all properly enqueued theme files to use protocol-relative paths, even those added from third-party plugins. Note: This plugin does not transform any image paths that may be embedded in the WordPress editor or output as featured images or elsewhere in the theme -- it presently only works on enqueued CSS/JavaScript files.

SETTING UP A SUBDOMAIN IS DONE THROUGH YOUR HOSTING PROVIDER You need to create a CName, and unfortunately the way you do this differs from one host to another, with some it’s a drop down box and it takes two seconds to do, with others the process will be a little bit more complicated. If you use an external host somewhere there will be a section where you can edit your DNS details – if your service doesn’t allow it then it’s probably time to move to another host. When you create a subdomain, you will need two things, the domain the subdomain is for and the location from which the new subdomain will load it’s content. Type your subdomain (m), that will be your mobile subdomain, then point for your website root. (don’t create a extra folder) this plugin will not work if you point it to be different from the directory you installed WordPress. To confirm that the process was performed correctly visit your full site in m.yousite.com (before enable the plugin) TESTING YOUR INSTALLATION (after enable the plugin) Ideally, use a real mobile device to access your (public) site address and check that the witching and theme work correctly. Use the Mobile emulator in admin dashboard. In Firefox Browser, the User-Agent Switcher add-on can be configured to send mobile headers and crudely simulate a mobile device’s request.

This plugin only works with themes that have added support. Footer Credits provides a standardized method for making theme credits editable. Instructions can be find in the Other Notes section. Additional Resources Write a review Contribute on GitHub Follow @cedaroco Visit Cedaro Notes If you’re a theme author and want to add support, all you need to do is pass the default credits string through a footer_credits filter. 1. Create a template tag with the default credits and filter: <?php if ( ! function_exists( 'themename_credits' ) ) : /** * Theme credits text. */ function themename_credits() { $text = sprintf( __( '%s by Cedaro.', 'themename' ), '<a href="https://www.cedaro.com/wordpress/themes/hyalite/">Hyalite</a>' ); echo apply_filters( 'footer_credits', $text ); } endif; 2. Then call the template tag somewhere in the footer of the theme: <footer class="site-footer"> <div class="credits"> <?php themename_credits(); ?> </div> </footer>
